However, start your discovery at the vendor's tech support and let them prove you, that their VPN is not crap. They could still attach a second monitor to the laptop, wherever they go.

I'd prefer they would be using a laptop owned by your organization (hospital), that is under your control and would also have installed different types of native VPN clients. I'm not sure, how good the idea is, to allow your employees remote access from devices (PC's) you have absolutely no control over. These clientless VPN's are neat to use for users without knowledge and privileges, but they may lag behind legacy VPN clients. Tech support should be able to tell you more about how the appliance itself is performing. The Fortinet box performance however may also be in question, if your appliance is underpowered. Generally seen, if things were working with Sonicwall's VPN portal/clientless VPN, the network speed/performance should not be the problem. Possibly they even have some patch, that could improve performance. Would any input on a device/appliance for this singular useįirst check with Fortinet tech support, if there is something they can do to help you improve the performance / experience. Still, if I need to purchase something like that Sonciwall, I will have no other option.

Not possible, as they are hindered by the system, application, software available using the hospitals pc's. first of all open a support case with Fortinet and be persistent to get some solution from them And even than, you would need to do thorough testing, so you wouldn't be surprised later on (possibly you should have done that already before you purchased the Fortinet?). Same as Sophos - you would need to check their resellers to find it out. This one would make sense only if it would be replacing the Fortinet, not as a complementary solution.įor Sonicwall, I can't say, if they offer a VPN portal on smaller appliances. WatchGuard has a VPN portal on rackmount and virtual appliances, but that would get expensive, as it's part of the TotalSecurity Suite. Or you could be looking at some sort of VPN client, that does not need an installation and could be run from an USB stick? That would mean (if Fortinet support won't be able to offer you a fix or solution to the problem) you could get a 3rdparty solution, that offers such clientless VPN access. I guess, that we are not talking about a limited (small) number of remote hospitals, that the access is needed from? But supposedly it's a very limited number of concurrent users, needing this access? It's still not really clear to my, why a doctor in a remote hospital would need images you have in your hospital, but that doesn't matter. And they are also the only ones, that know all the tech details and options they do support (or not) with their VPN portal. It's them who you paid to deliver features you needed, so they are the first ones responsible to help you get things working as needed.

IF it can't be done the same way here in FortiGate, I am sure some of you have seen this or experienced this, what might be a optimal alternative or solution?įirst of all (sorry if I'm repeating myself), you should contact Fortinet's support. The clinic, (Before my time), the used SonicWall, that offered a better means to view and use multiple monitors. I am guessing that in the case of FortiGate, WEB is the only option.

Their complaint is the lack of decent resolution to view these images as a problem with opening multiple windows in that view. Let me explain the issue, we have doctors that do their surgery at an area hospital that they will have a need to log back into our system to reference /update our EMR as well as view MRI's and images from PACS system. Further, as this function is web based, it has created a whole new issue with the 'view' and the resolution from the outside. I have an issue regarding the Web Console and maybe someone can advise on alternatives.įirst, We discovered that when using this and pointing at a Terminal Server for multi-person use, the Gateway has intermittent issues with the access, not sure why.
